the Sea Services." For over 100 years, Navy Leaguers around the world
have espoused the following four goals: to educate our national leaders
and the American people, to support the men and women of the Sea
Services, to provide assistance to sea service families and to support
our youth programs...
The Navy League of the
United States was founded in 1902 with the encouragement of President
Theodore Roosevelt. The heart of the Navy League is the individual
Council. Our Councils are located across the United States and around
the world.They are essential for the missions and goals of the Navy
League.
Our Bellingham Council
has met and exceeded these requirements for many years. The Bellingham
council has a strong membership made up of concerned citizens from all
walks of life within our community along with inactive and retired
military individuals and their families.
LOCAL
FUNCTIONS
Promote a military presence in our
Memorial Day (Sea to Ski) parade.
Promote a presence at local
Veteran's Day ceremonies.
Support Station Bellingham Coast
Guard activities.
Recognize notable sailor(s) from
Coast Guard Station Bellingham and the
Navy, i.e., USS Ford (FFG 54) at
specified intervals.
Provide Thanksgiving and Christmas
Holiday assistance to deserving
Coast Guard and Navy families.

MISSION STATEMENT
We are a civilian organization
comprised of veterans of all the Armed Forces and non-veterans as well,
who seek to; Honor, Support and Serve the Seagoing Services of the
United States of America, i.e.. Navy, Marines, Coast Guard and Merchant
Marine. We inform the American Public and local, state and federal
governments concerning our country's need for a strong maritime presence
in order to sustain a potent National Defense and maintain our global
economic equalibrium.
GOALS
1. Maintain a strong and active
local council membership.
2. Establish the council's budget
each year on or before 15 December of the preceding year. Operate within
the parameters of approved budget.
3. Support the Seagoing Services
with special focus upon local units and issues.
4. Provide local assistance to
retiring or honorably discharged Veterans of the seagoing services.
5. Investigate programs to promote
junior ROTC within our local high schools.
6. Educate the public and our
local, state and federal legislators about the Mission
and Goals of the Navy League
(National) and our local Navy League Council.
7. Assist deserving Sea Service
families within our jurisdiction, when practicable.
8. Solicit additional membership
and sponsorship by seeking the cooperation of the local community, in
furtherance of these Goals and our overall Mission.
9. Support the Navy League of the
United States (the National), in its many initiatives wherein they
promote the enhancement of the U.S. Sea Services.
10. Support, where practical,
applicants for attendance at the U.S. Naval Academy, U.S. Coast Guard
Academy, U.S. Merchant Marine Academy and the NROTC.college program.
Also provide support to local U.S. Sea Service recruitment efforts.
11. Always conduct Council
activities in the best traditions of the U.S. Sea Services and the
Homeland Security of our Great Republic.
